ELECTRICAL WORKERS

April 13, 2018 | Press Release

Rochester, NY – Today, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 86 endorsed Joe Morelle’s candidacy for the 25th Congressional District. IBEW Local 86 is the eighth union endorsement Morelle has received to date, capping off a week of endorsements including Amalgamated Transit Union, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, and Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.

“Now more than ever, we need leaders like Joe Morelle in Washington with a proven track record of rolling up their sleeves and going to work for our working men and women,” said David Young, Business Manager, IBEW Local 86. “He has worked tirelessly on behalf of our members throughout his career and will continue to stand alongside us as our next Congressman.”

“I am humbled to receive this endorsement and will work tirelessly to ensure the hardworking families in our community have a strong, unrelenting voice in Washington,” said Morelle. “I have been proud to stand alongside our brothers and sisters in labor fighting to increase job opportunities and ensure fair wages for all. I look forward to continuing to advocate on their behalf in Congress.”

Morelle, who currently serves as a state Assemblymember representing the towns of Brighton, Irondequoit and parts of the city of Rochester, has spent a lifetime in public service working to advance the best interests of his community. In the Assembly, Morelle has successfully fought for the passage of legislation to raise the minimum wage in New York State, establish paid family leave to ease the burden on our working families, improve access to healthcare for all people, bring millions of dollars in infrastructure improvements to our area, and increase workforce development training to ensure individuals have the skills and training they need to be successful.
