ROCHESTER TEACHER’S ASSOCIATION ENDORSES

JOE MORELLE FOR CONGRESS

May 17, 2018 | Press Release

Rochester, NY – Today, the Rochester Teacher’s Association (RTA) endorsed Joe Morelle’s candidacy for Congress in the 25th District. An affiliate of the American Federation of teachers, RTA has approximately 4,000 members in the Rochester region.

“Joe Morelle is the right candidate to carry on Louise Slaughter’s proud legacy of standing up for Rochester’s schools and educators and fighting to ensure our children receive the quality education they deserve,” said Adam Urbanski, President, Rochester Teacher’s Association. “Joe has a long history of supporting public education and we need his leadership in Washington now more than ever. For the sake of our children’s future, it is critical that we come together to ensure Joe Morelle is our next Congressman.”

“Quality public education is the foundation of a strong community,” said Morelle. “As the husband of a retired teacher, I have been lucky to see firsthand the profound impact a teacher can have on a child’s life. That is why I know it is so important to fight for continued investment in our teachers, our schools, and our education system so that every student has the opportunity to succeed. I am proud to have the support of the RTA and I will fight every single day in Washington on their behalf.”

Morelle, who currently serves as a state Assemblymember representing the towns of Brighton, Irondequoit and parts of the city of Rochester, has spent a lifetime in public service working to advance the best interests of his community. In the Assembly, Morelle has successfully fought for historic increases in school aid, worked to expand pre-kindergarten and full-day kindergarten programs, secured new after-school slots in high-need districts, increased access to early college programs, and voted to enact the Excelsior Scholarship to make higher education more affordable for working families.

Morelle has also received the endorsement of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and American Federation of Teachers.
